Grace Stoufer, 71, passed away the night of Wednesday, May 28, in Greenwood Village, Colorado. She had developed an infection as a complication of multiple sclerosis. Grace was in hospice care for the third time.
She is predeceased by her parents, George L. Jefferson Sr. and Grace H. Jefferson, and her brother, Jeffrey Jefferson.
She is survived by her son, Ian Stoufer, of Denver, and her brother, George Lee Jefferson Jr., of Oceanside, California, as well as several beloved friends.
Grace was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, in 1953. She attended Cooper High School and went on to Millsaps College and the University of Kansas, where she graduated with a degree in journalism.
Grace married Robert Stoufer of Ouray in 1973.
After they divorced, Grace and Ian moved to Colorado Springs before relocating to Aurora in 1987.
Before retiring on disability, she worked as a researcher. She attended Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir for many years, as well as New Life Christian Center.
She wrote numerous stories, including an autobiographical novel about her family history. She loved music, especially The Beatles.
A memorial will be held on Aug. 13, her birthday, at Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church in Cherry Creek.
