Near drowning at reservoir prompts call for life jackets
A near drowning of a stand-up paddleboarder at Ridgway State Park last week has renewed calls from Colorado Parks and Wildlife for paddlers to wear personal floatation devices.
State officials said in a news release that a man paddleboarding on the reservoir on June 13 wasn’t wearing a PFD when he fell into the water after the wind picked up. He had to be rescued by park rangers. His wife, who was wearing a life jacket, also fell off her board but was able to swim to shore.
