THURSDAY, AUGUST 8

COUNTY FAIR: Open class entries accepted at the 4-H Event Center from 10 a.m. to noon. For categories and rules visit ouracountyco.gov and see fair book. Judging will take place from 1-3 p.m.

COUNTY FAIR: Ouray County Fair, participant weigh-ins for livestock classes from 3-6 p.m. at the Ouray County 4-H Center, 22739 U.S. Highway 550, Ridgway. For a list of activities visit ouraycountyco.gov.

WATERSHED TOUR: Biking tour of the Uncompahgre River corridor through Ridgway, with guides Ashley Bembenek of Alpine Environmental Consultants and Ridgway Town Manager Preston Neill. $20 per adult or free for adults who bring youth ages 9-19. Register at www.uncompahgrewatershed.org.

MEET SMOKEY BEAR: 11 a.m.-noon at the Ridgway Public Library, meet Smokey Bear for his 80th birthday. All ages welcome.

TRIVIA: Literary trivia night, 6 p.m. at the Ouray Public Library, 320 Sixth Ave.

TAIZE PRAYER SERVICE: 6 p.m., St. John’s Episcopal Church, 329 Fifth Ave. in Ouray. Everyone welcome, food pantry donations accepted.

 

FRIDAY, AUGUST 9

COUNTY FAIR: Exhibit hall open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. inside the Ouray County 4-H Center, 22739 U.S. Highway 550, Ridgway. Swine show at 9 a.m., poultry show at 10 a.m., sheep and goat show at 11 a.m., beef show at 3 p.m. in the fair barn.

GAME: Music bingo. Free to play. 7 p.m., Wright Opera House, 472 Main St. Ouray.

ART SHOW: Opening reception for Brittany Stadler’s “Intuitive Nature” presented by The Wright Opera House. Free to attend. 4 p.m. – 6 p.m., Wright Opera House, 472 Main St. Ouray.

NATURE PROGRAM: “Insects and Their Oddities” by Colorado State University Extension Entomologist Melissa Schriener. 7-8:30 p.m.. at the Ridgway State Park Visitor Center, Dutch Charlie Entrance.

 

SATURDAY, AUGUST 10

COUNTY FAIR: Exhibit hall open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside the Ouray County 4-H Center, 22739 U.S. Highway 550, Ridgway. Round robin showmanship competition at 12:30 p.m. in the fair barn. Lil’ Wranglers’ show at 1 p.m. in the fair barn. Livestock sale at 2 p.m. in the fair barn.

ARTS FESTIVAL: Ridgway Rendezvous in Hartwell Park, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vendors, live music, food and more. Visit ridgwayrendezvous.com for info.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE EVENT: “Honoring the past, driving the future,” learn about electric vehicles from owners and dealers. 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Ridgway Railroad Museum parking lot at 200 N. Railroad St.

USED BOOK SALE: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Ridgway Public Library, 300 Charles St. Free children’s books.

NATURE PROGRAM: Nature detectives – Bats. 9-11 a.m. Ridgway State Park Camper Services, Pa-Co-Chu-Puk entrance.

NATURE PROGRAM: “Birds of Ridgway State Park” by birding expert Mike Campbell. 7-8:30 p.m., Ridgway State Park Visitor Center,. Dutch Charlie Entrance.

 

SUNDAY, AUGUST 11

MOVIE: Ouray International Film Festival Special Screening of “The Green Flash.” Tickets $5. 7 p.m., Wright Opera House, 472 Main St. Ouray.

BINGO: Every Wednesday until Aug. 28, doors open at 6 p.m., first bingo game is at 7 p.m., Ouray Elks Lodge, 421 Main St. 10 games for $10. Cash prizes and light concessions.

TRAIN RIDES: Free train rides at the Ridgway Railroad Museum, 200 N. Railroad St. every Saturday, May-October, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and on Fridays during Ridgway Farmers Market, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

TRUE GRIT TOURS: Free, guided one-hour walking tour of “True Grit” film locations in Ridgway. Meet at the Hartwell Park gazebo at 2:45 p.m. on Fridays.

ART SHOW: Ouray County Arts Association presents Cheryl Roberts Lee’s “Rocky Mountain Plein Air” through Aug. 7 at the Wright Opera House, 472 Main St. Ouray.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS: Every Friday and Saturday morning at 9 a.m. and every Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. at St. Daniel’s Church, 614 Fifth St., Ouray. Every Thursday and Sunday at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of the United Church of the San Juans, 295 N. Lena St. Ridgway.

AL-ANON: Every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of the United Church of the San Juans, 295 N. Lena St. Ridgway, 970-318-6966.

STORYTIME: Every Monday and Saturday from 11-11:30 a.m., Ridgway Public Library, 300 Charles St.

KIDS CRAFT TIME: Every Wednesday from 3:30-4:30 p.m., every Friday from 11-noon at Ridgway Public Library, 300 Charles St. For ages 3+ with adult helpers.

CELEBRATE RECOVERY: Every Thursday, 6 p.m. at Ridgway Community Church, 685 W. Sherman St., Ridgway. 970-626-5692. This is a confidential 12-step program. It is free and open to the public.
