The banner thanking firefighters on the fence just north of Whitehouse Vista Lane on U.S. Highway 550 is reflected in flood waters that brought down charred debris from the Gold Mountain Fire on Sunday night. Less than an inch of rain caused Cutler Creek to flood, bringing down trees and mud toward the highway and clogging the culvert under the highway. Crews worked to clear the debris and officials warned the next flood could be worse, as they work to start a project to install flood barriers to protect homes in Ponderosa Village.
