Fatal accident under investigation
A fatal crash involving a Dodge Caravan and a Ford F-350 truck hauling a trailer on U.S. Highway 550 south of Ridgway tonight is under investigation.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the accident happened just after 5:30 p.m. near mile marker 103, which is near Orvis Hot Springs.
The driver of the Dodge Caravan, a 34-year-old man, died in the accident. His name has not yet been released, pending notification of family members.
There were two others injured in the van. A 12-year-old girl was transported in a helicopter for medical treatment. Details about her injuries are not yet available. A second passenger, a 74-year-old woman, was transported by ambulance for medical treatment.
The driver of the Ford truck was uninjured, according to the State Patrol.
As of 8 p.m. the roadway was still closed and it’s not clear when it will reopen.
