Ridgway's Emery Cornell ascends a slight rise with fewer than 200 meters remaining in the high-school girls' 5K race during the Boggy Draw Bear Chase near Dolores Aug. 23. Cornell posted a fifth-place time of 22 minutes, 46.03 seconds and helped Ridgway — which boasted four of the top six placers — leave with the meet's team title. PREP ROUNDUP
With another year’s experience, Ridgway runners off to strong start
A lot of things can change during a high school cross country season. The course layouts and elevation can vary widely across the unique terrains of Colorado. Competition evolves week to week, with schools and athletes opting for different races. Sometimes athletes compete in a three-team battle of small schools, while other weeks will pit Class 2A runners against 5A competition. The schedule of races can sometimes make the biggest difference of all, especially when it comes to measuring improvement.
