First Friday Art Walk, from 5-8 p.m. in downtown Ridgway, free.

Art opening reception for “Containment” by Michelle Montague, 5-7 p.m. at the 610 Arts Collective, 610 Clinton St. in Ridgway. On display until Oct. 30.

Ridgway Farmers Market, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Hartwell Park.

Free train rides at the Ridgway Railroad Museum, 200 N. Railroad St. 10 a.m.– 2 p.m.

Ouray 150th Anniversary Celebration Gala and Historic Ball, 7-11 p.m. at The Beaumont Hotel, 505 Main St. in Ouray. Black tie or period attire. Tickets $100. Visit cityofouray.com for more details and tickets.

“Mineral Identification” kids’ workshop with geologist Robert Stoufer, 10 a.m. – noon at the Ouray County Historical Society Research Center, 722 Main St. in Ouray. $15 per child, space is limited. RSVP to 970-325-4576.

Ouray 150th Anniversary Celebration Concert: Big Head Todd & the Monsters with Hazel Miller & The Collective, 4-8 p.m. at Fellin Park, free.

Ridgway 1K Rally Thru The Alley, 12:15-2 p.m. Race starts at 1075 Sherman St. at 12:45 p.m. and ends at Hartwell Park.

Costumes encouraged, all ages welcome. Registration $30 per person in advance or $35 day of event. Kids under 13 free, $10 for youth 13+. Visit ridgway1k.com for details and registration.

San Juan Oktoberfest, 2-5 p.m. in Hartwell Park in Ridgway, live polka music with Polka Poyo. Free entry. Kids’ Pumpkinpalooza with games included, stein-holding contest, chicken dance-off, pretzel toss, partner wheelbarrow race and more. Visit sherbino. org for schedule and details.

Star Party: A Celebration of Dark Skies in our community with the Black Canyon Astronomical Society, 7:30 p.m. at the Ridgway Athletic Park. Weather permitting, free and open to the public. Please park at the soccer field with headlights pointing east. Professional telescopes provided for viewing, with laser- guided constellation tours.

Veterans coffee, free coffee for veterans with Welcome Home Alliance, 10 a.m.–noon at the Sherbino Theater, 604 Clinton St. in Ridgway.

“I voted: what happens next? A detailed explanation of Ouray County’s ballot processing system” presentation with Ouray County Elections Director Jonathan Arebalos. Free, from 3-5 p.m. at the Ouray County 4-H Event Center.
