Four seasons ago when Brian McDowell came on the scene to assume the head coaching reins of Ouray High School volleyball, he was called to resurrect a program that had fallen on hard times. Limited success on the court contributed to low turnout that barely filled a six-player roster. The enthusiasm has returned, and even though Ouray’s total high school enrollment hovers in the mid-to-high 40s, there is a mix of young players and seasoned veterans who see the value in fighting the good fight on both sides of the net. McDowell and his family had traveled from Houston to Ouray for a combination of work and leisure when the coaching opening was announced in 2022. He threw his hat in the ring, and was selected as the exact fit to begin the rebuilding process.
