Reservoir to close due to aerial firefighting operation
Ridgway Reservoir will close to boaters as soon as planes dispatched to assist with the aerial attack on the Gold Mountain Fire arrive.
It’s hard to tell exactly when that will be, but Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced this morning that water scoop aircraft are on their way to the reservoir to help harvest water and fight the fires.
These types of aircraft can hold up to 1,600 gallons of water and refill in as little as 12 seconds, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.
