December 4, 1952 – February 5, 2026
Eric was a man of many interests and talents. He was born December 4, 1952, in Colorado City, Texas. His family moved quite often due to his father’s employment. He always called Idaho and Colorado home, as that is where he lived most of his life. During his life, he was a river guide on the Snake and Salmon rivers, built houses, and was a fine furniture and cabinetmaker. In his late 30s, he went back to school to became a registered nurse and continued on to become a family nurse practitioner.
He loved to cook for his friends, write poetry, hike and spend time with his many dogs over the years.
As a nurse practitioner, Eric was dedicated to his many patients. He was liked and respected by his colleagues at the Telluride Regional Medical Center during his 25 years there, retiring in December 2021.
Eric loved Ridgway. He served on the Ridgway Town Council for 18 years.
He was kind and brave. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
Eric is survived by his wife of 50-plus years, Kaye Middleton; two brothers, Karl Johnson (Kymberly) and Kirk Johnson; his brother-in-law, Jeff Middleton; his sister-in-law, Carol Middleton; two nieces; one nephew; several cousins; his beloved dog, Tuck; and many, many dear friends.
Eric was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia S. Johnson, and father, Henry I. Johnson Jr.
There will be a Celebration of Eric’s Life on May 17 in Ridgway’s Hartwell Park at 11 a.m. A second line parade to the Sherbino Theater will follow (please bring noisemakers), as well as a reception.
A tree is being planted next to Ridgway Town Hall in Eric’s honor.
If you are so inclined, please donate to HopeWest Hospice in Eric’s name, 3090 N. 12th St., Unit B, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
