State to reduce highway speeds near Ridgway
The Colorado Department of Transportation has agreed to lower the speed limit in a section of U.S. Highway 550 north of Ridgway, roughly in the area just south of the intersection of Riversage Drive near mile marker 105. This photo shows traffic on Tuesday afternoon, looking south toward Ridgway, near the intersection of Mall Road and the highway. Most of the serious accidents in recent years on the highway in Ouray County have happened near this stretch of road. Members of the public contacted CDOT earlier this year after serious accidents involving head-on collisions near Billy Creek State Wildlife Area, north of this stretch of road, asking for more safety measures to help prevent accidents.
