Ouray County EMS volunteer Cash House checks on supplies in an ambulance on Oct. 5 at the Ridgway Fire House. House, who has been an EMT since 1992, also is a paid EMT for the department and works for the Ridgway Volunteer Fire Department. He also picks up volunteer shifts, like he did this day when he was covered for the volunteer shift and EMS Deputy Chief Paramedic Devin Bullis was on the schedule as paramedic. The department is shifting to covering more shifts with paid staff instead of relying on volunteers, but is still accepting volunteers who would like to drive the ambulance among other opportunities.
