Good For You!

Alexander Price, the president and CEO of Citizens State Bank based in Ouray, delivered the keynote address at the 2025 Community Banking Research Conference on Oct. 7. The conference brought together bankers, academics, regulators and policymakers at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis to discuss trends and research about the future of community banking.

“Community banks are more than financial institutions — we’re neighbors, partners, and stewards of local prosperity,” said Price in a prepared statement from the bank. “I’m honored to represent Citizens State Bank and the thousands of community banks nationwide that continue to invest in people, places, and possibilities.”

The Town of Ridgway and Mayor John Clark were both recognized at the Mountain Towns 2030 Climate Solutions Summit last week in Breckenridge, with awards for leadership and innovation. The organization represents a group of mountain, rural and ski town communities working to reduce climate change.

Clark received the Mountain Catalyst Award, honoring individuals “whose leadership, creativity or persistence helped spark measurable climate progress.”

The town received the Small Town Doing Big Things Award, which honors a smaller community that has delivered a bold-high impact climate solution, who show that “even small towns can lead in big ways.”

Nominations for both awards included those from EcoAction Partners, Ridgway Town Councilor Terry Schuyler, and International Flag of Planet Earth Organization Executive Director Hansa Devi, who lives in Ridgway. In her nomination, Devi cited the town’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030, which it adopted earlier this year, as well as the majority of the council agreeing in May 2025 to fly the International Flag of Planet Earth. It’s the first municipality in the world to do so.

In her nomination of Clark, Devi said, “He is a very bold and big-hearted leader and creative spirit within our community and he has helped steward a lot of really amazing climate action initiatives.”

Send us your celebrations!

The “Good For You!” page is a place for reader-submitted photos illustrating community, celebrations and more.

Want to submit a photo for publication? Here are some guidelines for submissions:

– This page is dedicated to photos of people doing community-related activities here in the region or celebrating accomplishments and recognition of locals..

– Photos should be clear and in focus. We are unable to publish photos that are blurry – a good rule of thumb is if it’s blurry on your screen, it will only look worse in print.

– Photos should be recent. If you took the picture more than a month ago, it’s probably too old to publish. It should also be clear what’s happening in the photo. We should be able to see people’s faces and recognize them.

– Please email your photo to erin@ouraynews.com. In your email, include a description of what’s happening in the photo and please identify the people who are pictured. Dates, the name of the event and first and last names are a must. Not sure what information you need to include? Look at the captions on this page for guidance. Please check to make sure names are spelled correctly.

– Submission of photos grants the Plaindealer the right to publish submitted photos. In submitting a photo for consideration, you are claiming to be the owner of the image. Please do not submit others’ photographs or work done by professional photographers – they retain the copyrights to their images.
