May 29, 1975 – Since the first of this month, Ouray has been served electric power by the San Miguel Power Association, Inc. The association purchased distribution facilities in this area from the Western Colorado Power Company in a complex transaction that effectively dissolved Western Colorado Power Company and divided its territory and functions among four power associations. Some changes in service to customers will be made. From now on, billing will be each month and customers will be required to pay those bills within 30 days. "Since this is a cooperative association which shares any profits with the customer, it is not fair to let past-due accounts accumulate," Eugene McLeod, general manager, said. "Last year, on $1 million revenue we lost only about $1,000. We have to be hard-nosed on bills to be fair to the other customers."
