Dear Editor:
Our Third Congressional District Representative, Jeff Hurd, voted to cut at least $715 billion in health care spending and $300 billion from SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) just before 7 a.m. on May 22.
Most of these health care cuts will be in Medicaid. Representative Hurd had promised to protect Medicaid spending because he said one-third of the constituents in his district are on Medicaid.
He broke his promise.
For seniors living in Ouray County (more than 35% are over 60), he also voted to cut Medicare by about $500 billion. In this big, ugly bill there were numerous other horrors, such as cutting safe staffing levels in nursing homes. (I know, we don’t have any in Ouray County). And it dramatically increases the federal debt.
In Ouray County, 1,530 (38%) citizens voted for Jeff Hurd and 1,573 (38%) voted for the current president.
I am wondering if they are feeling as impacted as I am with our slide away from the rule of law on the multitude of issues being implemented by our elected officials.
