January 3, 1975 – John Wilson, 28, of Ouray suffered the loss of his left arm in an accident at the Camp Bird Mill Dec. 28. The accident occurred between 3:30 and 4 p.m. According to Jim Points, resident manager at the mine, Wilson was chipping ice from a conveyor belt on the crusher when the improvised tool he was using got caught in the pulley, and pulled his hand in. His arm was severed at the elbow. Jay Charles, mill operator, and Chick Rahm, shift boss, were present, and applied a tourniquet to Wilson's arm.
