MEET ME AT THE FAIR

The 2024 Ouray County Fair livestock auction netted $131,250 for 4-H participants who raised animals and sold them at the sale on Aug. 10, more than the $118,000 raised in 2023.

Those recognized for grand champion and reserve champion awards were:

Grand champion beef – Mikey Perkovich

Reserve champion beef – Oaklee Cook

Beef carcass – Raiden Norwood

Grand champion swine – Mikey Perkovich

Reserve champion swine – Amelia Blankmeyer

Swine carcass – P.J. McConnell

Grand champion sheep – Hennessy Discoe

Reserve champion sheep – Emery Cornell

Sheep carcass – Emery Cornell

Grand champion poultry – Hennessy Discoe

Reserve champion poultry – Scarlett Cornell

Grand champion goat – Amelia Blankmeyer

Reserve champion goat – Luke Blankmeyer

Goat carcass – Luke Blankmeyer

Junior Round Robin showmanship champion – Amelia Blankmeyer

Intermediate Round Robin showmanship champion – Macey Cornell

Senior Round Robin showmanship champion – Emery Cornell

Ten-year-old Mikey Perkovich, of Log Hill Mesa, says goodbye to his grand champion steer, Toby, on Aug. 10 at the Ouray County Fair. Unlike most animals sold at the livestock auction, Toby is going to live on the Deppen family’s ranch in Pleasant Valley, where he will join several other animals including a camel named Cupcakes.
