New spa provides ‘healing space’
Halos Spa & Boutique opens in Ridgway

Over the years, Tracy Mobley has worked in high-end spas in Telluride, Florida and Hawaii, at the kind of places where clients can pay $300 an hour for a luxe experience.

Mobley decided it was time to open her own spa in Ridgway, where she offers the same kinds of treatments for roughly half as much as clients tend to pay in those resort spas.

“I just really wanted to … provide a healing space after Covid for people to come,” she said. “Everybody’s so stressed out these days, I think it’s really necessary.”

Before opening Halos Spa & Boutique at 304 Sherman St., Space 4, in April, Mobley did massages and facials in other spaces, even doing house calls. She did massage at Orvis Hot Springs and the Madeline Hotel in Telluride, and managed the spa at the Chipeta Lodge Resort and Spa, among other places.

Her current space, in what locals know as the Lupita’s building, is across from Hartwell Park. Her spa is in a suite between where The Vault and Ridgway Wrench used to be located.

It’s the first time Mobley has operated her own business out of a brick and mortar location.

Opening Halos in Ridgway is the latest step in a long journey for Mobley, who has worked in massage and skin care for more than 20 years.

She grew up in Maryland and went to esthetician school after high school. Struggles with her own skin as a teenager inspired her to go into the profession.

She moved to Oahu in 2007, where she went to massage school at the Aloha Institute of Massage and Healing Arts. There, she learned how to do Hawaiian lomi lomi massage, which uses broad strokes to promote circulation and encourage relaxation.

Two years later, she decided to move to Telluride, which a friend described to her as “kind of like Hawaii, but in the mountains.” In 2010 she met her husband, who grew up in Ridgway.

She spent five years as a lead therapist at the Madeline before moving to Ridgway, where she and her husband now live with their two daughters. They’re now 3 and 7, and the timing was right for Mobley to open her own space.

She usually works Tuesday-Thursday now, but can also accommodate weekend appointments for massage and facials.

Clients can expect a personalized massage experience, in which Mobley might use hot stones or cupping as needed, along with stretching or techniques to improve range of motion.

Her most popular service is a combination back and shoulders massage and facial, called the Halos Signature Treatment, for $135. But she also has other offerings, including a Thai herbal poultice massage including anti-inflammatory herbs. Though lomi lomi massage isn’t on her menu, she can do it by request.

Mobley specializes in treatments for younger skin as well, offering 30 minute junior facials for teens struggling to treat acne. That’s what she’s most passionate about. “That was me, and I wish I would have somebody like that to help me when I was younger,” she said.

She features Skin Authority products for facials, including her Beauty Infusion Superfood Facial. You’ll find products from Venus and Vetiver and Bluecorn in her boutique.

Mobley said her goal is to provide a high-end, relaxing experience in her private spa to clients, no matter what kind of service they choose.

“For someone who doesn’t really want to go to the spa around a bunch of people, more in a private setting, but you’re still getting all the luxury,” she said.
