LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Dear Editor: Whereas, I could have gone on blissfully not reading your “fish wrap,” a friend alerted me to your most recent editorial. “On grudges” was not only filled with typical arrogance but also misinformation. Had you the fortitude to actually ask me why I disliked your paper I would have obliged with the truth. Instead, you asked a second party who really didn’t relay the accurate details. But that didn’t stop you. I thought journalism was supposed to “seek truth” as you claim in your diatribe.
I recognize that it was an “opinion” piece, but the spin you took had nothing to do with my disregard. You also took some pretty flowery creative license ascribing feelings and actions to the description of events, but of course you must in order to elicit the desired “spin.” I don’t hold a “grudge” toward the Plaindealer for any reason. Your editorial exemplifies in its entirety why the current media, both print and television, has lost many of its audience. You rely on sensationalism and muck raking to garner readers’ interest. It smacks of gossip, which is the lowest form of communication. Lastly, if you think you are the “glue that holds this community together” you are arrogantly assigning status you don’t really have. I am very much a part of this community, but your newspaper does not speak for nor is read by all, for a multitude of reasons.
