Dear Editor: Last week’s edition of the Plaindealer included a letter asking for Ouray Police Chief Jeff Wood’s resignation. The sole reason from the writer was the public silence of the chief.
Since Chief Wood has not been accused of anything, not making a public statement is the right course of action. Moreover, we all should have a little sympathy since this has to be a difficult time for the chief and his family.
And the Colorado Bureau of investigation is handling the case, so it is an unbiased investigation not involving either the Ouray Police Department or the Ouray County Sheriff’s Department.
Chief Jeff Wood is a fine police chief, so let’s take a deep breath and remember “innocent until proven guilty.”
Calling for Chief Wood’s resignation without any facts is a feel-good, knee jerk reaction that would deprive the community of the experience of a dedicated police officer.
