The Woman’s Club of Ouray County’s inaugural Smackdown Chili Cookoff drew a total of 13 chili entries at Ouray’s Fellin Park on Saturday.
Three winners were declared: Ouray County Emergency Medical Services Chief Paramedic Kim Mitchell, above left, won the People’s Choice award, while Burning Ass Trading Company owner Andy Carrie won the Top Fundraiser award. The Best Chili award went to Cory Sargent of Brickhouse 737, pictured below in the center with Brickhouse owner Hans Vanderploeg. The chili cook-off and bake sale raised nearly $2,500, according to Woman’s Club President Heather Greisz. All of the proceeds benefit Ouray County nonprofits as grants.
