Dear Editor: I would like to extend a tremendous “thank you” to the Log Hill Volunteer Fire Department for their rapid response to my home on Sept. 19 at 3 a.m.
Station 2 Capt. Paul Oppenheim and Justin Kirsch responded to my 911 call regarding a large ponderosa tree on fire caused from a lightning strike. The flames extinguished with the rain, however, embers continued to blow. I appreciate their expertise in handling the situation in the middle of the night and providing reassurance to me. Also, a huge “thank you” to the standby crew from Station 2, Kelly Reece, Bennett Raley, Mike Varone, and John Martersteck and Station 1 Capt. Kevin Alcox who were ready to assist if the fire spread but luckily were not needed.
I feel very fortunate to live in this wonderful community knowing we have such dedicated VOLUNTEERS who put themselves at risk to keep us all safe.
With grateful appreciation,
Carol Parkinson Log Hill Mesa
