The inaugural Ouray Music & Makers Festival is set to bring together artists, performers, musicians and creatives from across the county and state on Sunday in Fellin Park to celebrate the local arts scene.
The festival is a chance for folks to meet, support and interact with all corners of the local arts community, said Jen Sawyer of Ouray Made, a makers group that organized the event with the Ouray County Performing Arts Guild.
Locals and visitors alike can expect more than 40 handmade goods vendors, five dining options and a selection of local beer and wine for sale.
The festival will also feature live music by Courthouse Blues, You Knew Me When, Smutdolly and Birds of Play, along with performances by aerial and youth artists.
The idea for the festival was sparked at a meeting of a newly- founded local arts organization called Arts Scene Ouray, said Erin Cawley, executive director of OCPAG.
“Ouray Made has always been fiercely supportive of individual makers in and around our county, while OCPAG focused more on performing arts, and when we come together we can make sure no one gets left behind,” Cawley said. “When we come together, we can make space for new ideas to blossom, and this is definitely one of them.”
The event also aligns with OCPAG’s goal to feature more local performers during its 40th year, Cawley said.
Ouray Made has hosted a maker’s market on Memorial Day weekend for the past several years, Sawyer said, but the chance to collaborate with OCPAG was too good to pass up.
“We’ll have more room, better weather, and we booked four local bands. The rest is history,” she said.
Cawley and Sawyer said community support has been instrumental in launching what they hope is an annual festival, including $3,000 in funding from the City of Ouray’s Lodging and Occupancy Tax Tourism Fund.
The festival is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in Fellin Park. Live music begins at 11 a.m. More information is available at ouraycreative.org/makers-markets.
