Ridgway practice offers alternative to traditional medicine

Ridgway practice offers alternative to traditional medicine

David Malin doesn’t want his patients telling him what ails them.

What he really wants is to first listen to the body. When someone pays a visit to Malin’s Ridgway practice, Let Your Light Shine Healing, Malin will have them fill out a form. But he won’t look at it — at least, not right away.

It’s not until Malin has completed a multidimensional assessment of a patient — be it a hands-on exam or an energetic scan — that he’ll then read what the patient wrote and incorporate it into his plan for treatment.

“I trust the body telling me what the problem is,” he said. “I respect and trust the body, letting it speak to me. I trust the body knows more than their interpretation of it from a symptom.”

A year after opening his practice, Malin’s goal remains the same: to offer alternative forms of health care to people who may not find what they need from traditional medicine.

Malin’s 45 years of experience in the healing arts has assumed various forms and taken him around the world. He was first trained in polarity therapy when he was 21, then added training and certification in massage and Gestalt therapy, which is a form of psychotherapy centered on increasing a person’s awareness, freedom and self-direction. He’s been licensed in Colorado as a physical therapist since 1984.

He operated in a practice in Boulder for many years but then turned his eye to the Western Slope, discovering Ouray County on trips to Telluride. He purchased land on Log Hill Mesa in the early 1990s, moved to Telluride in 2000, then Ridgway in 2008. He now lives in an offgrid home on Log Hill Mesa.

Malin initially worked on the Western Slope as a contract physical therapist and hospice chaplain, working side-by-side with disabled individuals and seniors near the end of their life. He opened Let Your Light Shine Healing with the idea of helping patients who aren’t responding to traditional treatment.

“I feel I have something to offer this community. I have a certain unique skill set,” he said.

Let Your Light Shine Healing is located at 195 S. Lena St., Unit B, and is open by appointment only. Malin can be reached at 970-309-7202 or david@circleofgrace. org.

David Mahlin opened Let Your Light Shine Healing in Ridgway a year ago, focusing on alternative medicine to help patients with their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health.
