SMPA playing the long game
Two of the tallest tasks facing San Miguel Power Association — diversifying its power supply and rebuilding its transmission line from Red Mountain Pass to Ouray — could take years to complete, as the rural electric cooperative navigates federal regulations and surging capital costs.
That was the message delivered to members by SMPA CEO and General Manager Brad Zaporski, who struck a mostly positive, if cautious, tone during the nonprofit organization’s annual meeting in Ridgway on June 8.
