Carol Lipton

Carol Lipton, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on November 22nd at age 80, following a seven-year battle with cancer. Carol died at home with family by her bedside.

With her degree in early childhood education from Mills College, Carol loved working with kids. She was an early education specialist teaching pre-school, kindergarten, and third grade in Pennsylvania and New Jersey before her retirement. Carol volunteered for many years at Ridgway Elementary School where she was recognized several times for her service to the children of Ridgway.

Known as the Mahjong queen among her friends, Carol loved the outdoors and identifying birds and other wildlife in the area. She was also an accomplished painter of western landscapes, having won awards at several shows. True to her nature, Carol loved donating paintings to institutions and giving them away to family and friends.

Carol and Ken, her husband of 60 years, found Ridgway after a long search for a ranch to fulfill a dream of raising cattle and horses. Carol and Ken had 25 wonderful years in Ridgway where Carol could ride her horses, Pip and Zulu, in the mountains and help with feeding and calving on the ranch.

Carol is survived by her husband Ken Lipton, sons Andrew Lipton, MD of Washington D.C. and his wife Elizabeth Franco, MD, and David Lipton and his wife Rose Lipton of Ottsville, PA and grandchildren Dorothy Curtin, Jacob Curtin, Paola Lipton, Michael Lipton, Daisy Lipton, and Joseph Lipton, and sister Judy Cohn of Livingston, NJ. Carol adored her grandkids and was proud of her sons.

Donations can be made in Carol’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
