Fire tax passes easily
Voters approved a tax increase by a nearly three to one margin Tuesday night, giving the Ridgway Fire Protection District its first major revenue boost in 20 years.
Unofficial election results showed the voters in the fire district approved the tax increase with more than 72% in favor of the ballot question, or 1,146 votes. There were 429 votes against the measure.
The property tax increase will raise $400,000, beginning in 2023. The measure caps the property tax at 7.591 mills.
