Sue Ann Schlosser

Sue Ann (McMahan) Schlosser passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on June 24th, 2022.

Sue was born to John and Helen McMahan on November 3rd, 1937 in the Ouray Hospital (now the Ouray County Museum) in Ouray, CO. She grew up working in her Father’s Main St. store, the Busy Corner Pharmacy and at times would keep an eye on her younger siblings, Kay and Johnnie. She played drums in the high school band, attended St. John’s Church with her family, took piano lessons from her Mother, was an OHS cheerleader and was crowned Homecoming Queen. Sue graduated from Ouray High School in 1955. Sue was proud of where she grew up, and had many wonderful stories of her childhood in Ouray that she loved to share. That fall Sue attended CU Boulder, but after her first year she left Colorado for Texas where she got a job as a receptionist. Still feeling there was more in life to experience, she took a job with Continental Airlines as a stewardess and moved to Southern California.

In 1962, at her apartment complex in Inglewood, CA she met her future husband, a firefighter by the name of Louis Von Schlosser. In 1963, Sue brought Louie to visit Colorado and it sealed the deal. They wed in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1964. Together they had 2 children, Mark and Shannon. Sue and Louie celebrated 56 years of marriage right before his passing in 2020. In 1984, Sue and the family made the move to Ridgway, CO and she was finally able to call Colorado home again. It took Sue no time to rekindle old friendships and make new ones. Back in the day, Sue could be found working at the Ouray County Courthouse, where she enjoyed helping people working as a Deputy County Clerk under Addie Sim. She and Louie could be found on Friday nights dancing and enjoying friends at the Little Chef, at the annual Labor Day Rodeo and Dance, Cattleman’s events, Sunday lunch at the True Grit Café with family and anything that had to do with their Grandchildren.

Sue’s greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren, Merrissa, Corbyn and Saren. She had such a close bond with all 3 (although, we all often teased that Uncle Mark was her favorite). On any given day, you could find her at any one of their activities cheering them on, whether it was an at home event or traveling across Colorado or even outside of the state. She was so present in their lives that she was often fondly referred to as Grandma Sue by many of their friends. In December of 2021, Corbyn and his wife Leslie gave her the greatest gift of becoming a Great Grandma (GG) to Isla Ann. She was the proudest GG and would show off pictures and talk about her to anyone that would listen.

Sue was an amazing daughter, sister, wife, aunt, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma and friend. Her smile was beautiful, it was the kind of smile that made you know everything was good. She will forever be loved and missed by many.

Sue is survived by her children, son Mark Schlosser of Montrose, daughter Shannon (Schlosser) Robinson and son-in-law John Robinson of Ridgway, 3 grandchildren Merrissa Robinson of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Corbyn (wife Leslie, daughter Isla) Robinson of Grand Junction, and Saren Robinson of Ridgway; and one brother John (wife Millie) McMahan of Puerto Rico. Sue was proceeded in death by her loving husband Louis, mother Helen Louise, father John Jesse and sister Kay Carolyn.

In honoring Sue’s wishes a small family gathering will take place in lieu of a service.

If you would like to honor Sue’s memory, a donation can be made to HopeWest Hospice: 725 S. 4th St. Montrose, Colorado 81401 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital (a charity Sue supported for many years): stjude. org “dedicate my donation in honor of”.
