Durango woman killed in bear attack
A Durango woman who was killed last week in a rare bear attack was identified Tuesday.
Laney Malavolta, 39, died of a perforating injury to her neck, according to the La Plata County Coroner’s Office.
“They grabbed her by the neck,” Coroner Jann Smith told The Durango Herald. “It was extensive damage.”
Her boyfriend, Justin Rangel, called Malavolta a “life-long adventurer and lover of the outdoors” in a statement posted on Facebook.
