The city of Ouray is preparing to embark on a sidewalk replacement program, offering to help pay for repairs as a way to entice property owners to fix sinking, cracking walkways that are unsightly and potentially dangerous.

During a work session Monday, City Council members suggested the city cover 25 percent of the replacement cost, with property owners bearing the balance of the cost. In Ouray, property owners own and are responsible for maintaining the sidewalk adjacent to their property.
