New year, new owners for Box Canyon Lodge
From left, Troy and Melinda Callender bought Box Canyon Lodge & Hot Springs last month from Rich and Karen Avery, who owned and operated it the last 13 years. The Callenders will keep their home in Texas for the time being but plan to live in Ouray full-time in the coming years.

The question seems funny now.

When Rich and Karen Avery bought Box Canyon Lodge & Hot Springs, someone asked them what sort of experience they had in the hospitality industry.

“Our experience was we had stayed in motels,” Rich said, laughing.
