Bernie Pearce, the longtime Ouray School athletic director and coach of the boysâ and girlsâ cross country teams, was recently named the boysâ cross country coach of the year in the San Juan Basin League. The cross country meet results Bernie Pearce dutifully distributes each week during the fall to school staff, parents and community members are replete with PRs.
That stands for personal record — a student’s best time in a 5K race — and it’s something he promotes as much as he can. He believes it’s important to recognize runners’ achievements and encourages them to rack up as many PRs as possible. The better they perform as individuals, the better the team performs as a whole.
