Voters slam brakes on road tax

Ouray County voters rejected a proposal to fund a series of roads maintenance projects in the unincorporated areas of the county this week, which would have raised an estimated $655,399 per year through a mixture of property taxes and vehicle use taxes.
According to unofficial election results Wednesday, 59 percent (or 1,428 voters) opposed Ref. 1A and 41 percent (or 974 voters) supported the measure.
