Aquatic biologist Eric Gardunio retrieves underwater LED lights from Crystal Lake south of Ouray on U.S. Highway 550. The flashing lights are meant to deter fish from escaping the spillway, which was rebuilt in the last decade. Anglers have complained to the state wildlife department that the fishing has never recovered since the dam was rebuilt, and Gardunio is trying to find a way to keep the fish in the lake without altering the spillway.
