Mary Nessmith Singer

Mary Nessmith Singer, d. May 9, 2019

Mary passed away May 9, 2019, at Montrose Memorial Hospital.
Born in Miami, Florida, on April 4, 1932, she attended Miami Jackson High School and was a member of the marching band. She attended the University of Miami, studying accounting, business and government.
She worked for the Dade County Assessor’s Office and served as village clerk, Village of Biscayne Park. She was vice president and general manager of Century 21 — The Grable Co in North Miami, Florida.
Mary first came to Ouray County in 1973, coming back every year until retirement in 1983. She moved here in July 1983 and built a home in the old abandoned town of Portland.
Back in the ‘80s, she served as clerk for the Ridgway Planning and Zoning Board and the Ridgway Fire District. She was a member of Unity Church of Miami and Grand Junction.
Mary was the loving wife of husband of 65 years, H.L. Singer, and mother of daughters Kate and Karen, who passed away in 1988. Her brother is Alva Nessmith of Tequesta, Florida.
She always fondly remembered her trips with Kate to 13 European countries.
Mary rests next to her beloved daughter Karen in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
