With registration for next year’s preschool and kindergarten coming up next month and rates having not been raised in five years, Elementary Principal Trish Greenwood said it is time to raise preschool tuition rates. At a school board work session on Thursday Feb. 14, Greenwood presented data she gathered on other area preschools to compare their tuition costs with Ridgway’s.
Greenwood said the only other preschool in Ridgway, Pinyon Song, “has much higher rates.” She also looked at costs in Ouray, Montrose, Norwood and Telluride. She took those numbers to get an average monthly and daily rate for the region and found that Ridgway could raise its rates and still stay below average in tuition costs. She said the average monthly rate for the area is $713.
She proposed raising Ridgway’s tuition from $500 to $640 per month for the full-day, five-day program.
The board agreed the increase is reasonable, especially considering that most preschoolers qualify for some form of scholarship or other type of assistance.
