Ouray: Ourayle and Maggie's find a good fit

by Beecher Threatt
Ourayle House patrons will no longer have to bring their own burgers to grill: Hutch is moving in with Maggie's Kitchen. Jim Hutchinson, owner of Mr. Grumpy Pants Brewing Co., is relocating his brewing and retail operation to a space in the same building as the popular burger restaurant on Main Street. He currently operates at 215 7th Ave.
On Monday the Ouray Planning Commission found that city code criteria were met and granted a conditional use permit that will allow Hutchinson to operate the brewery at 703 Main St.
An interior door will allow customer access between the businesses. While Maggie's Kitchen customers will be allowed to bring their food into the brewery, Hutchinson is still working with state liquor licensing authorities to get permission for brewery customers to take beverages into the restaurant.
Hutchinson said plans are to remodel the front of the shared building "to better reflect the character of Main Street," including signs, awnings, lighting, the porch and landscaping.
"Our combined efforts will result in a better value added than the two separate established businesses," the permit application states. Both businesses have been in operation over five years.
Hutchinson told the commission he is planning to open before Memorial Day. Tom Edder, owner of Maggie's Kitchen said he "shooting for mid-April" to re-open for the season.
