Harry Harwood Castle
October 8, 1946 ~ April 5, 2018
On April 5, 2018 Harry Harwood Castle passed away unexpectedly at his home in Ridgway, Colorado. Harry was a Colorado native born to Paul and Florence Castle on October 8, 1946 in Montrose, Colorado. Harry served four years in the Navy before coming back home to Colorado where he met and married Nancy Lee Anderson (Castle). Harry and Nancy had two children, Mark and Paula Castle. Harry and Nancy raised their family in Ridgway, CO. Harry was a hard rock miner who worked many years in the mines around Ouray, Silverton, Rico, and Telluride. Harry loved the San Juan Mountains and spent a lot of time enjoying the high country, on his cherished horses and mules. For those that knew Harry well, they knew he was a hardworking, no-nonsense man who was not afraid to be himself or express what he thought. Harry enjoyed life and made the most out of it. He was a cowboy in many ways and would have been just fine living in the old West with his six-shooter and horse.
Harry loved his family more than anything. He had a heart of gold and some of his family’s best memories are of riding horses, camping, fishing, hiking, and spending time at the Castle families’ mining claim with him. Harry was very proud of his grandchildren and spent time with all of them.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Castle (Ridgway, CO), his son Mark Castle (Ridgway, CO), his daughter Paula MacLennan and son-in-law Aaron MacLennan (Gunnison, CO). Grandsons Brandon Castle, Cody Castle, and Garret MacLennan; his only granddaughter Ashleigh MacLennan; his sister Florencie (Pat) Lyons of Ridgway and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Florence Castle; brothers John Castle, Fred Castle, Paul Castle, and Emmitt Castle; and sisters Margie Brown, Peggy Jackson, and Betty Smith.
Harry had many friends in Ridgway and the surrounding areas. He will be missed deeply, but our world was made better by the time we got to spend with him. Here’s to you Dad! You were the best.
There will be a Memorial Service on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Daniel’s Catholic Church at 614 5th Street, Ouray, Colorado. Crippin Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
