The FJ Summit, a five-day event that brings dozens of Toyota owners to Ouray every summer, has been canceled for this year.
Summit directors announced today on the FJ Summit's website that they were pulling the plug on the July 15-19 event due to concerns about COVID-19.
"The FJ Summit is about gathering with friends and family in beautiful Ouray, CO. We waited with optimism as long as possible but given the current situation and complexities of permits, insurance, gatherings, meals, restricted trail rides and the safety & wellbeing of our participants and the community of Ouray, after careful consideration we are cancelling the 2020 FJ Summit," the statement said.
The statement indicated that next year's summit will be held July 21-25, and those who registered for this year's summit will have their spot held for next year's summit.
The event has been held in Ouray for the last 13 years, bringing off-road enthusiasts to town for guided rides and clinics. Participants raise thousands of dollars each year for local nonprofit organizations and law enforcement, as well as student scholarships. Summit directors said they will still make their donations this year.
The cancellation will deprive Ouray businesses of a significant economic boost to which they've become accustomed over the years.
