Council waives permit, planning fees for library expansion

Ridgway Town Council unanimously approved waiver of building permit and planning fees for the Ridgway Public Library’s expansion project at last Wednesday’s council meeting, following a short discussion on setting a maximum amount. The town will waive up to $10,000 in fees for the project to move forward, an action that could also boost a RPL grant application to the Department of Local Affairs.
Stephanie Lyons, president of the library board, requested the waiver Wednesday evening and provided an update on the project.
Since its announcement last year, the project has raised almost $400,000 from local donors. Combined with funds already set aside by the library for the project, about $848,000 is ready for the expansion. Lyons said the current budget is set at $1 million. Lyons also said Friends of the Ridgway Library is pursuing more than $800,000 in additional grant funding, including about $600,000 that could be provided by DOLA.
