After breaking ground last fall and installing preliminary elements, members of the Ridgway Community Garden are preparing for an opening this May. Ridgway Town Council was informed of the garden group’s plans at its most recent meeting Feb. 13. Council members approved a three-year extension to the lease between the garden and the town, as well as a shade structure for the garden on Green Street.
In preparation for the spring opening, a scraped-out pathway, a parking area and the perimeter wildlife fence for the half acre property have been installed.
As soon as the snow melts, RCG members and volunteers plan to finish the main pathway, place the planting beds, install the irrigation system and complete the parking area.
Agnieszka Przeszlowska, representing RCG at last Wednesday’s meeting, said 25 beds will be ready for planting by opening day, and that work will continue during the summer. The beds are courtesy of Ridgway Secondary School shop class and its instructor, Adam Johnson.
