Bear euthanized at Ridgway State Park

A female bear attracted by campers’ food at Ridgway State Park was euthanized after displaying aggressive behavior late Tuesday night.
A Western Colorado Conservation Corps crew of nine was camping at Pa-Co-Chu-Puk in the dispersed tent camping area when a sow bear came into the campsite around 10:30 p.m., according to Colorado Parks & Wildlife Area Wildlife Manager Renzo DelPiccolo. The bear, estimated to be around three years old, weighed around 100 pounds, he said.
"The bear was pushing on a tent and ... trying to get into the tent where this individual was sleeping,” he said. “Instead of running away when there was a lot of running, screaming and confusion, it came back towards the individuals.”
