Coordinators needed

Dear Editor,
Ouray County Cares sponsored by Ridgway Community Pride is looking for a few good people to coordinate the annual holiday program providing gifts, food and toys to families in need. This program is entirely volunteer driven, is well funded and gets extensive support from all areas of the community including individual volunteers, businesses and county entities.

A compassionate weekend

Dear Editor,
Twenty years ago we saw how special Ouray County was. This past weekend was another example of loving your neighbor by helping them. This is called Compassion Weekend. Ten hardworking people arrived at our house and proceeded to dig out the weeds underneath our trees and put mulch around them. Another group took bricks that we had and outlined the two flower gardens. Another group stacked all the firewood that was in a pile on the back of our property. These are jobs that my husband Dick and I could no longer do.

Somehow we all survived

Dear Editor,
We just wanted to endorse your observations and conclusions.
As you summed up:
“When I was a kid, I felt responsible for my own actions. These days, it’s someone else’s responsibility to watch out for our actions.”
Unregulated sledding?
At our local school playground, we watched as the rings were taken away (someone might fall),
the tether balls got removed (someone might get whacked) and activities like dodge ball
banned (someone might get hit).

A welcome donation

Dear Editor,

Kari Wage and Vonnie Kuijvenhoven recently donated a new television to the Ouray Volunteer Fire Department. The department relies on donations such as these to help offset some of its expenses. In this case, the television will enable the department to conduct training sessions at the fire house as well as view and analyze film from fire events. With limited resources and significant expenses, the OVFD appreciates and accepts all kinds of donations, so thank you, Kari and Vonnie, for thinking of the department and making this generous donation.

Passing of the gavel

Dear Editor,
As outgoing president of the Ouray Chamber Resort Association (OCRA), I am reflecting on the last three years serving on the board, two years as president and one as vice president. Lots of amazing successes have occurred here in Ouray during that time period. I believe the results came from a team approach of not only the OCRA board of directors but especially of the excellent staff led by an outstanding Executive Director, Katherina (Kat) Papenbrock. Accomplishments include listening to our community and bringing new events to town.

Decorative spirit

Dear Editor,

I wish to thank the persons responsible for the beautiful decorations placed around the "Welcome to Ouray" sign on Hwy. 550. Every Christmas season I look forward to being blessed by them.
To me, they reflect the Christmas Spirit of Ouray in honoring the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. May this Spirit  prevail throughout the New Year and always.
