Gov. Polis visits Ridgway to talk education, healthcare

At least 75 people packed into Ridgway’s Town Hall to hear from Gov. Jared Polis on a beautiful Saturday afternoon last week. The stop in Ridgway was part of a tour around the state to take questions and promote his plans for early childhood education and healthcare in Colorado.
State Rep. Barbara McLachlan, who represents Ouray County as part of District 59, and State Rep. Julie McCluskie of District 61 came with the governor and participated in the discussion. Polis answered ten questions from the audience, with the representatives frequently giving their input.

Before responding to questions Polis took some time to promote progress being made in the legislative branch.
“One of the big areas where we are looking to make a lot of progress is early childhood education,” he said. “Rep. McCluskie has carried a bill which I know will pass to allow special districts for early childhood education. And very importantly, led by Rep. McLachlan we are looking at finally funding full-day kindergarten.”
