Businesses to hear case for sales tax hike

The Board of County Commissioners met in a work session March 6 to refine its “road show” presentation in ways that would cater to specific concerns officials and businesses in both Ouray and Ridgway would likely have faced with a sales tax measure proposed for the 2019 ballot to raise funding for county road improvements.
Commissioners feel confident in their ability to get voter support for the other funding measure they want to put on the ballot, a modest increase in property taxes in the unincorporated areas of the county, but are eager to find out what the sentiment would be in the municipalities for the sales tax of 0.25 percent they want to propose.
“I really like the way we have our plan structured because it’s very clean. It’s very detailed,” County Administrator Connie Hunt said.
