Judith Kay Kirby

Judith Kay Kirby
March 6, 1940 ~ January 30, 2019

Judith Kirby, 78, joined her Lord and Savior in Paradise January 30, 2019 at her home in Montrose, Colorado with family by her side, surrounded by love.
Judy was born March 6, 1940, in Warsaw, Indiana to L.Z. “Tiny” and Janet Lambert.  She accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at the age of 10 at the First Church of the Brethren in Phoenix Arizona.
Judy was the eldest of three siblings including Janice Mohney and Steven Lambert.  She spent most of her childhood focused on her studies, reading books, and sewing her own clothes.  Her sister Janice remembers her as being the bookworm of the family, as she always had her nose in a book.  Judy achieved many academic accomplishments during her school years—National Honor Society, Editor of her high school yearbook, voted “Most Likely to Succeed,” member of the A Capella
choir and more.  She graduated Valedictorian of her 8th grade class and Valedictorian of Phoenix Christian High School, Class of 1958.
She married Daniel Kirby on October 23, 1959. Together they enjoyed 43 years of marriage, making their home in San Diego, CA for 35 years.  In the first decade of their marriage, they were fortunate enough to adopt three beautiful babies, David, Timothy and Aimee.  She enjoyed raising their children, and with God’s guidance, she guided their lives with unconditional love and kindness.
While on vacation in 1991, Judy and Danny purchased property on Log Hill in Ridgway, CO, hoping to move there and build their dream house.  They had never heard of the town before but fell in love with the town, the people, and the mountains.  They lived in a 5th-wheel on their property for several years while planning and building their dream home.  They joined a Mexican Train Dominoes group of many friends which Judy attended until she became ill.  Judy enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, playing games, and in earlier days line dancing, water skiing, and fishing.
Judy is survived by her children: David, Timothy and Aimee Kirby: her step-children, Daniel Kirby, Jr., Penny Diggs; and Tammy Bachioni, daughter-in-law of San Diego:  her grandchildren: Daniel III, Jeremy, Michael, and Amanda Kirby, Jacob Kirby, Aubrie Sanchez: four great-grandchildren: and her mother, Janet Lambert and sister, Janice Mohney of Montrose.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Kirby, Sr.
She was a light to everyone around her.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and her Bible Study Growth Group which she looked forward to attending every week.  Judy’s nurse throughout this journey stated, “I’ve seen death many times but never seen death so beautiful.” We will remember her as a peaceful compassionate, generous, kind, faithful disciple of the Lord, a testimony of her faith to the end.
A celebration of her life will be held at Church180 in Montrose, Colorado, on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at 2:00 p.m.  After the service there will be a reception gathering at the church.
Donations in her name may be made to Church180.
