Response agencies express concern over TV show focusing on Red Mountain Pass

After a Board of County Commissioners denial of a special event permit on Tuesday, a television production company will have to find other cooperating agencies for an upcoming pitch to the Discovery Channel.
Wilma TV will soon propose a television show documenting and highlighting US 550 and Red Mountain Pass and the “extreme measures” taken by local response agencies to keep the public safe on the highway, deemed by many to be one of the more dangerous in the country.
The crew would come out to Ouray County for about a week in February and ride with response personnel for an initial reel to pitch to Discovery. If network executives like what they see, Wilma TV would return for further production.
Colorado Department of Transportation, La Plata County and San Juan County have already signed on with the production company, but it hasn’t had much luck in Ouray County.
