Plaindealer Staff Report
Following a determination by the Colorado Department of Transportation and the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, further avalanche control operations are necessary to keep public roadways safe. Motorists should expect a closure on US 550 Red Mountain Pass Tuesday, Jan. 8 starting at 8 a.m.
The closure is to allow for avalanche mitigation on the south side of Red Mountain Pass, which will continue for the majority of the morning. CDOT said drivers can expect up to a four-hour delay, with northbound traffic being stopped just outside Silverton and southbound traffic stopped near the summit of Red Mountain pass.
