Deceased hiker recovered from Gilpin Peak

A lone male hiker’s body was recovered from Gilpin Peak by Ouray Mountain Rescue Team on the morning of June 19. The hiker had been reported missing on June 18.

A search team from the sheriff’s office, OMRT members and a helicopter crew searched Mt. Sneffels on Sunday because it was believed he was hiking there. 

OMRT located the hiker Monday on Gilpin Peak.


The hiker was a 58 or 59-year-old male with a Colorado driver’s license. His name has not been released as next of kin have not been notified.
