 Spruce beetles continue destructive crusade

Acreage impacted by bark beetles has decreased across the state, but only because the pests are moving into new areas.

A 2016 forest health aerial survey conducted by the Colorado State Forest Service and the U.S. Forest Service found Spruce beetle was the most damaging forest insect pest in the state for the fifth year in a row. The two entities see no evidence pointing to an abatement of the Spruce  beetle epidemic but remain hopeful this winter’s precipitation will allow trees to start fighting back.
